Armação de Péra

Armação de Pera is a sought after little town just a few minutes drive from Albufeira. It is very much an up and coming area, already very popular with the Portuguese themselves, it is now making a name for itself with international holiday makers, especially the British and Irish. Armação de Pera was once a humble fishing village and retains much of its old-world character and charm today. Mixing the quaint beauty of the old town with all the modern facilities of a developed resort, you will find everything you need to enjoy your holiday close to hand.

You will be ideally placed to take full advantage of the many attractions the Algarve has to offer. Located within easy reach of the three main waterparks means a day out with the kids is only a short drive away. Only 5 minutes from the luxury Amendoeira golf resort, home to two championship courses designed by Nick Faldo & Christie O'Connor, as well as the iconic Salgados golf course makes Armação de Pera the natural choice for that golfing break too. Its proximity to the newly opened "Autodromo do Algarve" formula 1 race track means you can also take in an exhilarating ‘day at the races' as part of your holiday. Shopping facilities are also excellent being just a 10 minute drive from the famous "Algarve Shopping" centre with its free parking and international food court, as well as the myriad of small local shops offering their local arts and crafts and artisana. Or for those that want to just work on that tan you have one of the longest and relatively uncrowded Algarve beaches, stretching some 7km, just a couple of hundred metres away from the apartment. The beauty of Armacao de Pera is it is centrally and conveniently located for ALL major attractions.

Portugal's Algarve has an excellent reputation for its golf courses, many of which are renowned as being amongst the best courses in the world. .There are 20 courses within a half hour drive of the apartment. Information on some of them can be found below.

Amendoeira Golf Resort

Quickly establishing itself as the golf destination on the Algarve, this is certainly the place to visit. Featuring two 18 hole courses, designed by Nick Faldo and Christy O'Connor plus a 9 hole course, this resort offers golfers of all levels something to look forward to. You can read an excellent review of the resort here.

Further information is available on the website,

Salgados is a links Course, situated in one of the best-known regions of the Algarve, just outside Armação de Pêra, and is already a 'postcard' of Portuguese golf. In fact, the proximity of the sea and the variety of lakes make this a very interesting test of golfing skills, different from other courses in the Algarve.

Information and reviews on the course can be found here and here

Full details can be found on the Salgados Golf Website

Vale da Pinta

This 8 times consecutive host of the European Seniors Tour Qualifying final, Vale de Pinta is rightly respected not just for its playability and challenging layout but for outstanding levels of beauty and enjoyment. Designed by the famous American golf course architect Ronald Fream and inaugurated in 1992 Vale de Pinta has earned its place as one of the best designed courses in Europe.

Check out the Vale da Pinta website for more details

Penina Golf Course, previously known as the Sir Henry Cotton Championship Golf Course, the main 18 holes provides the most demanding test of a player's skills in the Algarve, if not in Portugal. With the inevitable difficulty that a flat landscaping and terrain creates with club selection, the holes are crossed and flanked by a series of streams, ditches and water hazards, demanding precisely executed shots to avoid trouble and achieve par.

More information about Penina can be found here

Vale de Milho

This is a very friendly par-3 course with nine holes close to the coastal village of Carvoeiro. Being only 926 metres in length it is a excellent course for beginners to practice and regular players to improve on their short game. There are an adequate number of bunkers and water hazards to keep most players keenly interested. The second hole is a good example of the essence of this course.

Check out the Vale de Milho website for more information
